I have no idea who they played (who are "the opponents"?). I have no idea what the "Sochi Open" is. Maybe these two small factors would let me appreciate if they win meant anything at all.

I'm fairly sure the article doesn't say once who they played. Or what the tournament is.

Could be the problem because the team they played is called ''Sochi'', and they are playing at a tournament called ''Sochi Open'' literally nothing else to add to that. Just random exhibition games to get ready for the Olympics.
